Breeding Program

Follow our real-world freshwater breeding projects—from proven pairs and spawning behavior to fry development, grow-out, and long-term line maintenance. DSS Aquatics documents what happens in our fish room so other aquarists can learn alongside us.

Our Breeding Journey

DSS Aquatics maintains a diverse freshwater breeding program spanning livebearers and egg layers, including rainbowfish, Medaka ricefish, African and South American cichlids, plecos and catfish, and other specialty species. Our goal is not simply to produce fish. We document parentage, spawning behavior, fry development, survival milestones, and lessons learned from each project.

Learn. Build. Breed. Succeed.

Active Breeding Projects

  • Livebearers: Tequila Goodeid, Green Moscow Guppy, Highfin Redtail Platy and additional lines.
  • Rainbowfish: Millennium Rainbowfish and Kamaka Rainbowfish juveniles currently growing in the DSS fish room.
  • South American Cichlids: Electric Blue Acara and other active cichlid projects.
  • Blue Parrot Hybrids: a proven repeat pair with three confirmed offspring groups; Brood #4 is planned for detailed documentation.
  • Medaka: Red Tiger and Platinum Miyuki fry currently in grow-out.

How We Document a Spawn

For developing projects we record the breeder pair or group, source and provenance when known, spawning or discovery date, initial fry count, development stage, grow-out observations, milestone counts, and supporting photos or video. Approximate dates remain labeled as estimates rather than being converted into invented exact dates.

Master Breeder & Conservation Journey

Our private Master Breeding Registry tracks successful reproduction across the entire DSS Aquatics program. Livebearer projects are also tracked separately for potential breeder-program recognition where applicable. We will only claim an external award or recognition after its requirements have been completed and verified.
