Albino Congo Tetra – Pre-Adult/Adult

Scientific name: Phenacogrammus interruptus “Albino”

Bring graceful movement and uncommon coloration to your freshwater aquarium with the Albino Congo Tetra. This selectively bred form of the traditional Congo Tetra features a pearly white-to-pink body, red eyes, warm iridescent highlights, and translucent fins that become increasingly elegant as the fish mature.

The fish currently available measure approximately 2.5–3 inches and are considered pre-adults to adults. Males may continue developing longer dorsal and tail-fin extensions as they mature and settle into a properly maintained aquarium.

Actual DSS Aquatics Fish

The product photograph shows fish from the actual group currently available. This is a group listing rather than an individually selected WYSIWYG listing, so the fish received may vary slightly in size, coloration, body shape, and fin development.

Fish are sold unsexed. Specific sexes and male-to-female ratios are not guaranteed.

Schooling and Aquarium Requirements

Albino Congo Tetras are active, social fish that should be maintained in a group of at least six whenever possible. A properly sized school helps them feel secure, encourages natural behavior, and produces a much more impressive aquarium display.

Because Congo Tetras are larger and more active than many common tetra species, adults need a spacious aquarium with plenty of open horizontal swimming room. A 30-gallon aquarium is the minimum commonly suggested, although a 40-gallon breeder, 55-gallon aquarium, or larger setup is preferable for a full school.

Feeding

Offer a varied diet consisting of quality flakes or appropriately sized pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods. Brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, insect-based foods, and similar protein-rich options can help support strong growth, coloration, and fin development.

Tankmates

Albino Congo Tetras are well suited to peaceful community aquariums containing similarly sized fish. Potential companions include peaceful tetras, rainbowfish, Corydoras, smaller Synodontis, plecos, and appropriately selected peaceful cichlids.

Avoid aggressive fish, persistent fin-nippers, and extremely boisterous tankmates. Mature males can develop extended fins that may be damaged by nipping species.

Aquarium Setup

Provide clean, well-oxygenated water with gentle-to-moderate circulation. A planted aquarium with a darker background or substrate can emphasize their pale coloration and iridescent highlights. Leave plenty of open space through the middle of the aquarium for schooling.

Congo Tetras can be startled and may jump, so a securely fitted aquarium lid is strongly recommended.
